Student of the John Cranko School Serhii Zharikov honoured with Heinz Bosl Prize 2023
Serhii Zharikov, a student at the John Cranko School, has been awarded the Heinz Bosl Prize 2023.

The Heinz Bosl Prize has already been awarded several times to promising young talents. With this year's award, the jury decided to set an example of peace in times of conflict. The prize was therefore awarded as a sponsorship prize to two promising young Ukrainian talents who had to leave their homeland due to war and violence. In addition to Serhii Zharikov, Varvara Lobanova (Academia Teatro alla Scala) was honoured.

Serhii danced "Sonate", a pas de deux by Uwe Scholz to music by Sergei Rachmaninoff, together with Kaela Tapper at the award ceremony.

Student of the John Cranko School Alexei Orohovsky wins gold medal at "USA International Ballet Competition
Alexei Orohovsky, student of the John Cranko School, has won the gold medal at the USA International Ballet Competition in the category "Junior Male".

The competition consists of three rounds, Alexei Orohovsky was able to convince in the first round with Flames of Paris by Vasili Vainonen and Paquita-Variation by Arthur Saint-Leon. In the second round he danced the shadow, in the third round he convinced with excerpts from The Nutcracker by Lev Ivanov/Marius Petipa, Le corsaire by Marius Petipa /Vakhtang Chabukiani and the
contemporary solo the lament and was thus able to secure the gold medal in the category "Junior Male".

Graduate of the John Cranko School Alice McArthur wins the Genée Gold Medal of the Margot Fonteyn International Ballet competition 2021
Alice McArthur, a student of the John Cranko School, has won the Genée Gold Medal of the Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition 2021 (formerly Genée International Ballet Competition). The Royal Academy of Dance in London held the competition virtually for the first time this year. The native New Zealander (born 2004) has been a student at the John Cranko School since 2020.

Initially, the coaches, who included former Royal Ballet Principals Edward Watson and Leanne Benjamin, gave online lessons. Eventually, 15 dancers were selected for the final. In the final of the competition, Alice McArthur danced an excerpt from a Royal Ballet production of Swan Lake, her own choreography called Haumoana (Maori for "sea breeze") and a choreography by Ashley Page, which all finalists had to rehearse and perform via video link.
The virtual competition allowed 114 dancers from 18 countries to participate.

Graduate of the John Cranko School Danil Zinovyev wins the 1st prize of the Grand Prix Kiev 2021
Danil Zinovyev, a student of Academy A of the John Cranko School, today won the first prize of the Grand Prix Kiev 2021. The jury included well-known personalities, including Laurent Hilaire, Nina Ananiashvili and Leonid Sarafanov, as well as former Principal Dancer of the Stuttgart Ballet Vladimir Malakhov.

The competition was held online this year. Danil prevailed over his competitors with a training lesson in front of the camera, a classical variation from the ballet Marco Spada by Pierre Lacotte and the contemporary solo Serpentine - created especially for him by Joshua Green, who is also an Academy A student of the John Cranko Schule. After completing his ballet training this year at the John Cranko School, Danil Zinovyev will join the Stuttgart Ballet company as an Apprentice in the 2021/22 season.

Congratulations to this extraordinary achievement and international recognition, Danil!
